User Guide
Everything you need to know about using ClutterFree Cocktails.
Free vs. Unlimited
ClutterFree Cocktails is free to download and use. The free tier lets you:
- Store up to 10 cocktails in your recipe book
For a one-time upgrade, Unlimited removes all limits and lets you store as many recipes as you like.
You can purchase Unlimited at any time from Settings → Unlimited Cocktails, or when you hit the limit. There's no subscription — it's a one-time purchase tied to your Apple ID. If you ever delete and reinstall the app, tap Restore Purchases from the settings screen.
Adding a Cocktail
Tap the + button in the top-right of the Cocktails tab. The editor lets you set:
- Name — the recipe name.
- Photo — tap the image at the top to pick a photo from your camera roll. If you leave it empty, a glass icon matching your chosen glass type is shown instead.
- Glass — the serving glass: Rocks, Highball, Martini, Flute, Copper Mug, Hurricane, Tiki, Wine, Shot, or Other.
- Method — how it's prepared: Stir, Shake, Build, Blend, or Roll.
- Ice — ice preference for the serve.
- Ingredients — the core ingredients with amounts. Each ingredient is picked from your inventory and given a quantity and unit (ml, oz, dash, bar spoon, piece, part, leaf, fill, or none).
- Garnish — garnish items, listed separately from the core ingredients.
- Notes — free-text notes, technique tips, or personal tweaks.
Tap Save in the top-right to add the recipe to your book.
Marking as a Favourite
Open a cocktail and tap the star icon in the toolbar to mark it as a favourite. Favourites can be filtered to the top of your list using Group by → Favourite in the Cocktails tab menu.
Viewing a Recipe
Tap any cocktail card to open the detail view. You'll see the full ingredient list with amounts, the preparation method, glass type, ice preference, source, and your notes. Tap the edit button (pencil icon) to open the editor.
Ingredient Inventory
The Ingredients tab is your personal bar inventory. Tap + to add an ingredient:
- Name — what it's called.
- Type — Spirits, Liqueurs, Fortified Wine, Syrups, Juices, Bitters, Mixers, Fruits, Herbs, Spices, Vegetables, or Other. The type determines the icon shown.
- Stocked — toggle on if the bottle is currently in your bar.
Ingredients are grouped by type and sorted so stocked items appear first. Tap any ingredient cell to toggle its stocked status, or long-press to open the editor.
Makeable Cocktails
The ingredients tab shows a card at the top telling you how many recipes you can currently make. Tap it to open the Makeable Cocktails view:
- Ready to make — every core ingredient is stocked. You can make these right now.
- Almost there — only one core ingredient is missing, shown beneath each card. Pick up that one bottle and you're set.
Garnish ingredients are not counted — the view only checks core recipe ingredients.
Grouping & Organizing
In the Cocktails tab, tap the ⋯ menu in the top-right and choose Group By:
- None — all recipes in a single "All Cocktails" list.
- Method — grouped by preparation method (Stir, Shake, Build, Blend, Roll).
- Source — grouped by where the recipe came from.
- Favourite — favourited recipes float to the top in their own section; the rest stay below.
Within each group, cocktails are sorted alphabetically.
Search
The Search tab lets you quickly find cocktails or ingredients by name. Use the segment at the top to switch between searching your recipe book and searching your ingredient inventory. The search is case-insensitive and updates as you type.
Importing Recipes
Go to Settings → Libraries to browse the built-in recipe libraries. Libraries are organized by source — tap a library to see its recipes, then tap any recipe to import it into your book with a single tap. Imported recipes appear in your Cocktails tab immediately.
You can also import a .cocktails file shared by another user — just open it and the app will offer to add the included recipes to your book.
Sharing Cocktails
You can share any selection of your recipes with other ClutterFree Cocktails users:
- In the Cocktails tab, tap ⋯ → Select Cocktails.
- Tap the cards you want to share.
- Tap the Share button in the top-right.
This creates a .cocktails file containing your selected recipes (including photos). Send it however you like — AirDrop, Messages, Mail — and the recipient can import it by opening the file.
Generating Custom Cocktail Images
All built-in cocktail images in the app were generated using ChatGPT with a specific prompt style — a 3D emoji-like icon on a transparent background, in the Apple iOS visual language. You can generate images for your custom cocktails in exactly the same style.
Use the following template. Replace the highlighted placeholders with your cocktail's details. If there's no garnish, remove that part of the sentence.
Glass types used in the app: rocks, highball, martini, flute, copper mug, hurricane, tiki, wine, shot.
Once generated, add the image to your cocktail by tapping its photo in the editor.
